The first night Kory slept through in his own room is one I will remember.
Despite Kory having a good nights sleep, I didn’t sleep too well. I was constantly looking at the baby monitor and checking on him in his room. I also remember feeling upset and thinking to myself ‘he’s such a big boy now, where has my baby gone?!’ It just took some time for me to get used to, from being born he’d always slept in his Moses basket by my side of the bed.
He’s been sleeping in his own room for a while now and I have to say I’m glad that we did it when we did, he’s grown to like sleeping in his bedroom and I’ve grown to like having a bit of space and I appreciate the ‘me time’ I get to myself after putting him to bed.
If you too are thinking of maybe putting your child in their own room for the first time, here are some pointers you may find helpful:
- Sleep bag.
During Kory’s time sleeping in his Moses basket by my side, I chose to use a blanket but I felt more comfortable using a sleeping bag once I’d moved him into his own room. Knowing he couldn’t pull anything over his face, the sleep bag definitely made me feel more at ease. Sleep bags can be purchased from most supermarkets, all baby stores and online.
- Gro egg.
The gro egg makes it easy to tell the temperature of your baby’s room, making it easy for you to know what to dress them in for bed so that they are neither too hot or too cold. I’ve written a review on the gro egg in a previous blog post if you would like to know about it in more detail. Gro eggs can be purchased online, by the gro company and from some supermarkets.
- Baby monitor.
If it wasn’t for our baby monitor, I would have been up and down all night like a yo-yo! Our baby monitor allows you to see and hear your baby from anywhere in the house which definitely made the whole ordeal a lot easier for me.
Just remember that how and when you move your baby into their own room is entirely up to you, some people prefer to share their room with their baby for more than the recommended 6 months, some people choose to share for less than that (In my case I had to move Kory into his own room at 5 months old as he had outgrown his Moses basket and his cot wouldn’t fit in our room) however you do it, it is absolutely fine, it’s what works best for you, your family and your baby what matters.
Thank you for reading my pointers, I hope you find them helpful

Lucky…my little one is 7 months and still wakes up at least once in the night for good. I like your reviews. I’d never heard of the gro egg. I’m going to have to get one of those! GREAT POST!

Kory has his moments, especially when he’s teething, sometimes he wakes in the night and is hard to get back to sleep, he’s just always been a lazy baby lol thank you very much, I’m glad you found it helpful š
