I love reading (when I can find the time that is anyway!) and I always have, from being a child my christmas list would mainly just be a list of books I wanted and I would always get excited when the teacher told us to get our books out and read to ourselves quietly.
I don’t quite know how I got into reading, no one in my family is really a bookworm as such but I’ve always enjoyed reading books from a young age. I think it might have been Holes by Louis Sacher that began my love for reading. I remember my teacher at primary school reading a chapter from the book Holes to the class before the end of each school day and me just being sucked in by this story about a boy called Stanley Yelnats who is cursed because of something that his great great grandfather did, bad luck lands Stanley at Camp Green Lake and the story takes off from there. I asked my mum could she buy me the book so that I could read it myself because I was just so eager to finish it and find out what happened in the end.
That is my earliest memory of me being truly absorbed by a book.
When I was growing up I always had my head in a book and not much has changed since then, I still love to read other than since then I’ve become a mum and I can’t read as much as I used to, or would like to. When you’re a mum it’s hard to find the time to read or to do anything in fact! And when I do finally find the time to read after putting Kory to bed, I’m usually far too tired anyway and more often than not ready for bed myself!
I used to be able to start and finish a book in 2 days, now it takes me about 2 months! Sometimes longer! But the small time I do get to sit down and read makes me happy. Books for me are an escape, I can really get lost in a book that I love. I love how when I’m reading one it can take me anywhere… After a stressful day I can read a book and forget all about my worries and stresses, even if it is just for a short while.
So, I’ve made a promise to myself that I’m going to try and make more time for this hobby and fall back in love with reading all over again. My books to read list is only getting longer! I’ve decided after each book I finish reading, I’m going to write a short review about it on the blog and let you guys read what I thought and you can share your own thoughts about the book if you’re a reader yourself.
My favourite genre is fiction mystery/crime so those are the sorts of books I will most likely be reading and reviewing. If you have any book recommendations please let me know!
